Denbury Community Shop will be a locally run, community focused retail hub offering essential groceries, fresh produce, baked goods, household items, and a curated selection of locally sourced specialties. In addition to everyday necessities, the shop provides convenient services such as community notice boards, and seasonal products tailored to village needs. By prioritising local suppliers and sustainable practices, the shop supports the regional economy while delivering high quality goods to residents and visitors alike.

There is still a lot to do, we are hoping to get the building works completed by the end of Autumn 2026 and open as soon after. However, this depends on the community helping with work and fundraising the project.

The Management Committee consists of a group of villagers who care passionately about the future of Denbury Community Shop. They have worked to progress the project whilst liaising with professionals offering advice and financial support. They do not have any financial interest in the project, beyond their own investment in community shares. Their personal profiles are in the Management Committee section on the website. A manager will be recruited to run the business day to day and will report to the Management Committee. The Management Committee will have overall responsibility in ensuring the business is properly run.

The Business Plan assumes full commercial viability based on maximising volunteer support but also allows for a paid manager.

Of course, we welcome donations. If you prefer to give a donation towards building the shop, please fill in the donation form, available from our website at the link below, or it can be requested from the Secretary. Please note, donations do not result in membership of the Society and do not give voting rights.

Yes, you can. You can give a donation of any amount by completing the donation form. You can also purchase shares by also completing a share application form. By purchasing shares, you become a member of the Society and have voting rights.

Community shares can be withdrawn but you will be unable to withdraw your shares in the first 3 years of trading. After that, you can apply to withdraw shares giving at least three months’ notice. The Management Committee may suspend withdrawals depending on the long-term interests of the Society, the need to maintain adequate reserves and the commitment to the community. Withdrawal of shareholdings can be funded from surpluses generated by the business and/or further share sales to new investors, for example new residents in the village.

We expect and will require the business to be a profitable venture. We have carefully evaluated its strengths and weaknesses, and our projections show that we can establish it as a successful business.
